How to extract a ZIP file

Open and extract ZIP archives online without installing software. Preview contents, pick the files you need, and download them privately.

When someone sends you a ZIP, the files inside are packed together to make delivery easier. Extracting unpacks them so you can use them again. With Aback ZIP you can preview what is inside before you extract a single file.

1. Open the archive

Drop the ZIP file into the Extract ZIP tool or choose it from your device. The tool reads the archive structure instantly without extracting anything, so you can see exactly what is inside first.

2. Preview the contents

You will see every file and folder with its size and compression method. This is useful when an archive is large and you only need a few files, or when you want to check what a download actually contains before unpacking it.

3. Choose what to extract

Tick the files you need, use Select All when you want everything, and click Extract. You can download the selected files individually or as a single new ZIP package.

Is browser extraction safe?

Extraction in a browser is safer than it might seem, because Aback ZIP runs locally and treats archive contents as untrusted:

  • Path traversal attempts are blocked, so archive entries cannot escape the extraction folder.
  • Archives that expand to impractical sizes trigger a warning before extraction.
  • Password-protected archives are detected and refused, never cracked.
  • Your original file is never modified. Extraction only produces new downloads.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extract a ZIP without extracting everything?

Yes. After the archive is inspected, select only the files you need before clicking Extract.

What if the ZIP is corrupted?

The tool reports a clear error and your original file is untouched. Try the archive in another application to confirm it is valid.
